Level 1: Laughing Gas
Laughing gas, also known as nitrous oxide, helps to alleviate fear and discomfort for patients with mild anxiety. Laughing gas is the most commonly used form of relaxation dentistry, and is administered by having the patient breathe in nitrous oxide through a small mask covering the nose and mouth. Wit laughing gas, patients remain conscious and are able to breathe on their own with a sense of total well-being.

Level 2: Twilight Sedation
Twilight Sedation helps to alleviate fear and discomfort for patients with mild to moderate anxiety, and at Hopewell Dental Care, is administered orally via medicated pills. The same drugs used in general anesthesia are also used for Twilight Sedation, except in smaller doses that provide anxiety relief and light amnesia. For your safety, a family member or friend is required to drive you home after your appointment.

Level 3: Conscious Sedation
Conscious Sedation helps to significantly reduce fear and discomfort for patients with moderate to heavy anxiety, and is administered orally via medicated pills at Hopewell Dental Care. Conscious Sedation is slightly stronger than Twilight Sedation, and is watched carefully by Hopewell Dental Care staff with a heart monitor and oxygen support while the patient relaxes or naps. For your safety, a family member or friend is required to drive you home after your appointment.
